In chapter 6 Job responds to Eliphaz as follows in verse 2 through 6: “If my sadness could be weighed and my troubles be put on the scales, they would be heavier than all the sands of the sea. That is why I spoke so rashly. For the Almighty has struck me down with his arrows. He has sent his poisoned arrows deep within my spirit. All God’s terrors are arrayed against me. Don’t I have a right to complain? Wild donkeys bray when they find no green grass, and oxen low when they have no food. People complain when there is no salt in their food.”  How do these words of Job’s speak to you?  Are these fair words for him to be saying in reply to Eliphaz?  Are they fair words for us to consider in our own lives today as well?

It seems those closest to God in Scripture are the ones that ask, “Who is man (I) that you are mindful of us (me)?
I used to have a teacher in junior high school who was immensely fond of me. This fondness played out in him teasing me – alot – during classes. I once asked him why he teased me so much and he said it was because he liked me so much! I asked if he could like me a little less…a minor, insignificant comparison, but it seems Job may be asking God if He could think a little less of him and just leave him alone.

Job 7:13-15 really speaks to me today. Although I find scripture interesting and appreciate the advice/guidance/teachings I find there, I don’t often identify strongly with any individual mentioned. Today, it is like Job is narrating my life. Or, rather, what parts of my life are like sometimes. Thankfully, my troubles do not come anywhere near his, but I find the similarity of sentiment to be very comforting.
